ALMA BOA PROJECT
building bridges with awareness and movement

Our team is flexible and our workshops can be designed specifically for the respective group, so that all participants are included. Our three workshop components contain a variety of methods and approaches and can be combined as desired. We are happy to work with artists, educators, teachers, therapists, activists and care-givers to create an optimal workshop concept; in this way suitable pedagogical objectives and methods can be found for each group. We invite you to explore new ways of working in some of the following areas:
-
Language support
-
Integration of academic subjects
-
Environmental actions
-
Conflict resolution
-
Improving group dynamics
-
Creation of original performance work
other players in our work:
-
"A positive approach to the past" based on the African SANKOFA principle
-
"Make little, more" according to the Afro-Brazilian belief in MANDINGA
-
"if it's not good for me, it's not good for the community"
-
Discourse about cultural appropriation
-
We practice reciprocity by supporting the Canoa Grande and Flor da Cabaça projects with our work in Germany and the USA - sustainability is often an issue for freelance artists and we want to share our knowledge fairly
All methods represent our principles: respect, equality, freedom of expression, listening, and cooperation.
ENSEMBLE THEATER
"Empathy is the most powerful weapon." Agosto Boal
Self-awareness and understanding psycho-physics through organic, playful movement; , improvising and creating with self/space/others. In this course we begin with the experience of our own body and work towards ensemble creation. In our process, exercises from yoga, movement to music, contact improvisation, object theater, Laban, Lecoq, Viewpoints, Stanislawski, Voice and Speech support the learning in an ensemble setting. Original material can be rehearsed into a final performance, whereby the creative process and the experience of collaboration as an ensemble remain at the core of the work.
CAPOEIRA
"Capoeira is not, knowing how to move, but yes, knowing how to let the soul move you." Mestre Pastinha
Coordination, play, improvisation, expression, rhythm, togetherness, balance, flexibility, language.
Capoeira weaves dance and music into a survival strategy that was developed by the peoples brought to Brazil from Africa against their will during the Colonial era. In 2014, Capoeira was declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In capoeira we playfully get to know the nature of our bodies and how to engage with our counterpart. The music carries us in the game. Capoeira is inclusive; in the "roda" (circle), all are equals, small children, elderly and people with disabilities, can learn how to communicate in this physical dialogue.
FELDENKRAIS
"What I'm aiming for is not moving bodies, but moving brains." Moshe Feldenkrais
Our actions support the image we have of ourselves which corresponds to only a fraction of our potential. Cultural, social, educational and other factors have brought us to this self-image. In groups (Awareness Through Movement) and / or individual work (Functional Integration) we strive to create ideal conditions to enable playful, beneficial, stress-free learning. While moving the body with ease we can sense and understand ourselves in new ways; we can learn how we do what we do and then create new possibilities for moving more freely and elegantly.
