ALMA BOA PROJECT
building bridges with awareness and movement

The Alma Boa Projekt is pleased to build bridges and connection through our weekly Yoga classes on zoom!
In-person classes are held at Espaço Cultural Canoa Açu in Igarassu, Brazil on Sundays at 8am local time. Our space is located on CAETES land.
During the pandemic we adhere to current COVID-19 precautions.
The Alma Boa Projekt is an organization that promotes connection with self, others, and community through capoeira, movement and theatre.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is a teaching based on the Vedanta philosophy and is 5,000-10,000 years old. In yoga, the mind comes to rest. The word yoga is often understood as "union" - to connect with yourself, the world and the creative energy. Yoga promotes awareness of all aspects of our being. The practice of yoga includes breathing exercises, postures, movement, relaxation, and meditation.
Who is Yoga for?
Yoga is for all of us. Why practice Yoga?
The reasons are endless – you may want to lower your stress, strengthen your immunity and your body, gain flexibility, improve your general health, align your purpose, connect to your inner wisdom, achieve mental clarity, love yourself more, and have fun!
What do I need to join?
You will need a calm, restful area where you can lie, sit and stand on the floor and from where you can see the screen of your cellphone or notebook. It is recommended to not eat prior to practicing.
A mat if you have one, some pillows for support when/if needed. If you experience pain while kneeling, a folded towel can be helpful.
Modifications are always available if a posture is not yet available to you. It can be helpful to have a chair that won’t slip.
Wear comfortable clothes and no belts. For the relaxation at the end of class, you may want a blanket and socks for warmth. And an eye covering if you wish!
May there be peace for all humans and beings!

LOVE AND LIGHT AND HEALTH!
DANIELA/SHARON

My name is Sharon Danielle Göpfert, you can call me Daniela or Sharon – I am also known as Bamba in the capoeira world.
I was born in Germany in 1966 and moved to the USA as an au-pair in 1986, I have been living in Igarassu, Brazil since 2013.
During my training as an actor I had the fortune to experienced Yoga on my own body and since then Yoga has been a gentle companion in my life. My work and art-making over the past 30 years has revolved around movement, awareness and learning and include certifying as a Feldenkrais Practitioner in 2013 and earning the title of Contra Mestra in the art of capoeira in 2021. I began my path in capoeira in 1999 right around the time I began teaching acting and movement at schools and universities in Chicago. While building a career as an actor, I also directed and choreographed and collaborated with the Physical Theatre Company Plasticene for over 13 years.
For me Capoeira, Yoga and Feldenkrais have a deep connection with liberation, expression, and healing.
In 2020 the pandemic allowed me the time to deepen my practice of Yoga during a 200-hr Teacher Training with East + West amazing inspiring instructors! At the moment I have the opportunity to do a 300h online course with Element Yoga based in Berlin.
As a human with friends and family in different places on this planet I began teaching Yoga on zoom to remain connected to community and my practice.
"...by remaining unaware of the history, roots, and complexity of the heritage from which yoga springs and the challenges it has faced under Western Culture, we perpetuate a re-colonization of it....a colonization of ideas, practices, cultural riches, taking and claiming as their own without giving any credit to where it came from." - Susanna Barkataki

I would like to give respect to my teachers:
My first teacher who introduced Yoga into my life in 1991 was Gabriel Halpern (student of B.K.S. Iyengar). I did my first yoga training with East+West Yoga with Vijeth Kumar (Hatha, pranayama, history), Christine Anderson (vinyasa flow), Swami Atman (philosophy, meditation), Andrew Sealey (vinyasa flow), Punnu Singh Wasu (meditation). I am currently training with Element Yoga (Alex Kröger). I am grateful for all the teaching I have received, grateful for the knowledge that has been passed on through so many thousand of years, transformed, changed and shaped by the ages. Namaste!
